“Only a person who posseses the following four qualities is considered to be a true devotee; empathy, forgiveness, generosity, and the ability to take away the sorrows of others.”

-Paramguru Shreemat Karunasagar Maharajshree

Community Matters!!

Even before Kaival Gyan Chicago Foundation established their first mandir (temple), its members were working hard not only to grow as an organization but also to make a difference in the community – whether it be here in the states or abroad in India.  Of course, after the opening of our mandir, it became easier to spread the message of helping others and doing community service. This desire to do community service has been inspired to us through Paramguru and our current Guruji, H.H. Acharya Shree Avichaldasji Maharajshree.  When Paramguru was on earth, he helped thousands of people and taught his followers to do the same. Paramguru has told us to hold four qualities close to us. Without these qualities, a person is not a true devotee. The four qualities are:

Empathy, forgiveness, generosity, and the ability to take away others sorrows.  We should learn to understand what others are going through and try to help them when we can.  We should learn to find forgiveness and move forward – because even the best and brightest make mistakes.  We should learn to give when we have been blessed with more than we need. This doesn’t only apply to money; it applies to us – the ability to give our service and time to a cause which can benefit people less fortunate than us – that is worth more than money.  And, finally – we should be able to take away others sorrows. Learning how to do this might be the toughest. The ability to see when someone is hurting and help him/her is one of the best things we can do.

In this case we take example of our Guruji who has established various relief organizations in India (ranging from eye hospitals to educational institutions) to help people less fortunate.  That is the true meaning of religion.

Kaival Gyan Mandir Community Activities

Following in these amazing footsteps, Kaival Gyan Chicago Foundation has worked to become an integral part of its community. Since it was established, Kaival Gyan Mandir has held several walk-a-thons in support of community organizations, fund-raisers for various causes, and blood drives through Life Source and Red Cross. More recently we have gone to help pack food, at places like Feed My Starving Children and Rise Against Hunger. Going to places like these helps remind everyone how easy and self-rewarding it is too volunteer. It has also established a Sunday School, which integrates positive thinking and good moral codes within its curriculum – helping today’s youth understand the importance of giving back to our community is key because they are our future.
